Church

  • First United Methodist Church follows the St. Charles City Schools lead for inclement weather when the schools are in session. When the St. Charles city schools are closed due to weather, church activities scheduled for that day and evening are also cancelled.
  • We are updating our photo gallery on our website and facebook. Please send photos to fumc_stcharles@yahoo.com and a copy of the signed photo release form.
  • God's People In Action! The week after Christmas was a marvelous display of FUMC “God’s People in Action”.  On December 27th through 29th over 150 people, who would have normally been fed by the Salvation Army, were served awesome meals prepared by the Good News, Wesley Society and Crusaders Classes.  In addition to the 48 kitchen volunteers who worked over the three day period, our FUMC Boy Scout Troop and leaders camped in the church for three days and assisted with each meal service.  Behind the scenes were many volunteers who served by providing sack lunches and cakes.  In fact, there were more who volunteered than there were jobs and for that we are truly blessed.

No one who came for a good meal left hungry!  Those who wanted seconds and carry outs were given as much as they wanted.  Each day the workers heard from those who came….”I haven’t had a meal like this in so long, thank you so much!”  “This is my favorite food, may I have seconds?”  The volunteers sat and visited with many and got to hear their stories, some of hardship, others of memories of past Christmas meals.  As each left, the Scouts and volunteers gave to all who wanted them, sack lunches to help with a light evening meal.

As always, when God provides there is abundance!  If you wanted to help this year and didn’t get to serve, please watch for other ways throughout the year where you can help.  Your church has many missions or projects where you are needed.  We will do this again! FUMC is a generous and giving congregation.  God Bless you all for that generosity!

  • Push For VBS Station Leaders  Sky VBS is coming to FUMC! Every kid wishes they could fly…so imagine transforming FUMC into a boundless blue sky! At Sky kids will discover that by trusting God, everything is possible. (Mark 10:27)
Are you missing that Christmas like excitement in your faith? The remedy? Vacation
Bible School! Even as I type those three words I can see the cringe on your face. Maybe we need to rename this week long event to reflect the true spirit of the wild, crazy, God-filled week that it is. I guarantee you that the children who attend do not consider this “school”. You might think of it as “babysitting”. Give me one week and some preparation time and I will personally guarantee that you will discover excitement for your faith like you have never know.
Planning is underway and we need you to lead a station at VBS. Maybe you like to tell
Bible stories, or do cool experiments, run and play games, prepare snacks, all the while sharing the love of Jesus. Do you have to do this alone? NO! Training will be coming soon and each station has detailed instructions for each day. Grab a friend and partner up to lead a station…..the sky is the limit!

  • Community Cares Tuesday - Did you know that on the second Tuesday of every month we offer financial assistance to our neighbors?  Thanks to your Extravagant Generosity, our Community Cares Fund provides assistance with utility bills and gasoline.  Because of our assistance, homes will be warmer this winter and people will have gasoline in their cars’ tanks.  As folks arrive on those mornings, we offer them Radical Hospitality - a cup of coffee, glass of juice, and cookies.  It’s also a wonderful opportunity to offer personal Radical Hospitality by sitting down and visiting with the folks, coloring with their children, and serving them beverages and cookies.  “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” (Hebrews 13:2)  Would you like to be a part of our “Community Cares Tuesday” team?  It’s a very rewarding team!  All you need to do is arrive by 7:30 am, help set-up the beverages and goodies, and offer hospitality to our guests.  If you would like to be a part of this team or have questions, please contact Rev. Debby (revdebby@fumcstcharles.org or 636-947-0066).
