Philosophy

The First United Methodist Preschool was born out of the belief in the natural setting of the church as an extension of the home. We believe our preschool affords children an orderly, loving introduction to the vast expanses of education. Our qualified Christian teachers are eager to help your child make the transition from home to school as smoothly as possible. The program promotes spiritual, physical, and intellectual growth and development; creative expression; and reinforcement of a positive self-concept in a safe and healthy environment.

We believe the purpose of the First United Methodist Preschool is to provide an environment where a child can experience spiritual growth and develop social and academic readiness skills.

Program Goals

  • Develop a sense of self worth.
  • Develop Christian principles.
  • Develop social skills including sharing, manners and cooperation with peers and adults.
  • Develop a degree of independence including an ability to choose activities, to complete tasks, and to return materials.
  • Develop language skills.
  • Develop gross motor skills - climbing, running, jumping, hopping, catching, balancing, marching.
  • Develop fine motor skills including: manipulation of crayons, pencils, paintbrushes, scissors; pouring; buttoning and zipping.
  • Develop curiosity and appreciation of our world.
  • Develop academic readiness including color recognition, shape recognition, sequencing, math concepts, classification, left-right orientation, rhyming, alphabet recognition.
  • Develop listening skills.

Our goals and philosophies are accomplished through a program born and nurtured with love. Our teachers see their responsibilities as providing an atmosphere where each child may develop his potential to the maximum.

We believe our program is unique. One of our most important goals will be to develop a curiosity for learning in each child that will cause him/her to want to learn. Our program also features special days including: Birthdays, Pumpkin Party
, Parent Nights, Thanksgiving Observance, Christmas Party, Christmas Caroling, Valentine Party, Pasta Potluck, Donuts for Dads, Graduation, Family Picnic, and Muffins for Moms.

We want each child to experience an early childhood education based on the Christian principles of love and sharing. Each child is a unique individual who must be presented with a program geared to making him realize that he is a child of God and an important person.
